"Another mighty angel"

Text: Revelation 10:1

ANOTHER MIGHTY ANGEL

John had seen many angels in heaven. This particular angel was especially mighty.

“I saw still another mighty angel
coming down from heaven,
clothed with a cloud.
And a rainbow was on his head,
his face was like the sun,
and his feet like pillars of fire.
He had a little book open in his hand.
And he set his right foot on the sea
and his left foot on the land,
and cried with a loud voice,
as when a lion roars.
When he cried out,
seven thunders uttered their voices.”
Revelation 10:1-3

1. Who was this angel?

a) Some speculate that this was the Lord Jesus.

b) The description seems to fit Him.

2. “Another mighty angel”

a) This phrase is of importance.

b) He was described simply as “another” (NU text).

c) This helps us to understand:

i) He was an angel like the others who were mentioned earlier.

ii) He was an angel described as an angel who is “strong”.

iii) Some were higher ranking angels than others.

3. A description of this mighty (strong) angel.

a) He was clothed with a cloud.
To reflect the majesty of God.

b) A rainbow was around him like a great halo.

i) To remind us of the first rainbow God made (Genesis 9:13).

ii) This was a rainbow of hope.

c) His face was like the sun.

To reflect the glory of the Lord.

d) His feet were like brass.

He was prepared for whatever work he was assigned to do.

4. A little book in his hand.

a) This is not the same book mentioned in Revelation 5 (Scroll of God).

b) That Scroll was so sacred that only the Lamb of God was deemed worthy to take hold of it.

c) What that “little book” contained, we are not informed.

5. The feet of the mighty angel.

a) His right foot was on the sea.

b) His left foot was on the land (the earth).

6. The voice of this mighty angel.

a) He had “a loud voice”.

b) This was compared to the roar of a mighty lion.

c) It was further compared to the volume of “seven thunders”.

d) The loudness of his voice depicted his might and strength.
