INTRODUCTION TO THE BOOK OF REVELATION

Text: Revelation 1:1

THE ONLY BOOK OF PROPHECY IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

The only book in the New Testament with a deep emphasis on Prophecy is the Book of Revelation. Sadly, many avoid reading this book. Many claim that Revelation is too difficult to read and too deep to comprehend! But in not reading Revelation they miss out on many blessings from God!

OUR APPROACH TO READING THE BOOK OF REVELATION

1. There are difficult passages.

a) We will try and grapple with the difficult texts.

b) We can seek enlightenment from the Lord to comprehend.

2. There are many important messages from Revelation.

a) Some texts may be in the form of rebuke.

b) But there are many passages that are:

i) Refreshing

ii) Relevant

iii) Revitalising

3. Let us offer this prayer from our heart as we begin reading the Book of Revelation.

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,
the eyes of your understanding being enlightened;
that you may know what is the hope of His calling,
what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe,
according to the working of His mighty power.”
Ephesians 1:17-19

a) Let us pray for the spirit of wisdom and revelation.

b) Let us seek to have our understanding further enlightened.

c) Let us seek to know the power of God as we read the Book of Revelation.
