Day 261 – Psalm 33

“Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him…” Psalm 33:18

REJOICING IN THE PROTECTION OF GOD

There will be times of danger in life. The believer has every reason to rejoice in the knowledge that God watches over him with great protective care.

WRONG FOCUS

The psalmist was well aware of what people relied on in times of danger. However he points out the fallacy of relying on the following:-

“No king is saved by the multitude of an army;
A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
A horse is a vain hope for safety;
Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.”
Psalm 33:16-17

It was altogether too common to rely on military might alone for safety.

1. Multitude of an army

2. Mighty soldiers

3. Mighty horses

RIGHT FOCUS

The psalmist offers a different perspective in the following text.
“Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope in His mercy,
To deliver their soul from death,
And to keep them alive in famine.”
Psalm 33:18-19

1. “The eye of the LORD”

This represents His watchful care.

2. Recipients of God’s care

a) Those who fear Him.
b) Those who hope in His mercy.

3. What would God do for His people?

a) He would deliver them from death.
b) He would preserve them alive even in times when famine strikes.
