Day 98 – Psalm 14

“The LORD looks down from heaven…” Psalm 14:2a

A PERSONAL DECLARATION OF FAITH

David vigorously sought to counter the influence of the wicked. One way of fighting them was to personally declare his faith in God!

“The LORD looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.”
Psalm 14:2

1. The position of Atheism

a) They have their freedom to declare that they do not believe in the existence of God.
b) They deny God
i) By word
ii) By deed

2. The position of Theism

a) David had a firm faith in the existence of God (Theism).
b) His faith was not an academic one.
c) His faith in God included the following knowledge about Him:-
i) God is personally interested in the affairs of mankind.
ii) He expresses interest by looking down from His abode in heaven at the children of men.
iii) He is in fact always searching for people who express an understanding in spiritual matters.
iv) He is deeply interested to know those who actually actively seek Him.

THEISM DEFENDED

David’s defence of theism was simple and straightforward. He was not writing from the standpoint of an erudite scholar. Instead, he was writing as one who could personally testify of a deep and meaningful faith-relationship with God! He would be able to testify of special deliverances he had experienced time and again! These would be adduced as proof of positive theism.
