Day 97 – Psalm 14

“The fool has said in his heart…” Psalm 14:1a

SUPERSCRIPTION

We have another psalm that has a superscription.

“To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.”

Here’s another perspective of how we may appreciate David’s psalms!

1. His psalms may well be seen as a special spiritual journal.

2. He was well ahead of his time in this endeavour.

REFLECTION ON THOSE WHO REJECT GOD

David was as honest as he was astute in his observations of people and life.

“The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’
They are corrupt, they have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.”
Psalm 14:1

1. So-called atheists

a) These existed even in the days of David.
b) They declare freely their belief “There is no God”.

2. Legitimate questions

a) On what basis do these atheists affirm that there is no God?
b) Do mere declarations mean anything at all, no matter how forcefully they are asserted?

3. A deeper personal analysis

a) It is very possible that David knew these “atheists” personally.
b) What were these people really like? David offered three disturbing observations:-
i) They are corrupt people.
ii) They have done abominable works.
iii) They were not people who do good works.

These “atheists” deny the existence of God, as if by so-doing, they are not accountable!
