Praying Much

A time to pray
We begin this day with a deep concern in our hearts. Pastor Charles and Aunty Sally will be undergoing a major transplant surgery. They have been preparing well for this operation…physically, mentally and spiritually. As a church, Pastor has also been preparing us for this vital time. The challenge is not to allow fear and anxiety to get the better of us. The wiser approach is to pray.
Let us all rally together as a church to pray, especially for Pastor and Aunty. They are both well-loved and very dear to us, and we would want the best outcome for them from this operation. Yet, we know that uncertainty remains and nothing is assured. Our response must be to look to God and commit them into His hands. There are a number of things we want to pray for.
1. Pray for peace of mind and heart
- Pastor shared with us his focus on the Lord and His Word.
- His mind is stayed on the Lord as he places his trust in Him (Isaiah 26:3).
- God will indeed keep him in perfect peace.
- Our part is to bring our requests and concerns to the Lord (Philippians 4:6–7).
- May the peace of God that surpasses all understanding be given to Pastor, Aunty and to all of us.
- May the God of peace be present with them and with us as we pray (Philippians 4:9).
2. Pray for God’s mercy
- One vital lesson I’ve learnt over the years about prayer is not just about how well we pray.
- The focus is really not on us.
- It is all about God’s mercy…that He would answer our prayers at all is due to His mercy.
- The Psalmist David wrote, “But as for me, my prayer is to You, O Lord, in the acceptable time; O God, in the multitude of Your mercy, hear me in the truth of Your salvation” (Psalm 69:13).
- It is through the multitude of the mercy of God that He would hear our prayer.
- The Lord, in His mercies, would bring about His salvation and deliverance.
3. Pray for wisdom and understanding
- Another vital lesson I’ve learnt is the prayer for wisdom and understanding.
- The Apostle Paul prayed for the Colossian church…“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” (Colossians 1:9).
- We have an urgent reason to pray…to pray ceaselessly.
- Let us seek to know and trust in the will of God.
- Let us pray for wisdom to be given to the doctors as they operate on Pastor and Aunty.
- Let us pray for spiritual understanding to be granted to us as a church as we navigate the days ahead.
The challenge to seek the Lord
May we learn to grow our faith and prayer life as we seek the Lord. Let us pray for the Lord to grant a smooth surgery and a good recovery in the days ahead. Let us seek to place our absolute trust in the Lord and His hand of blessing.
