Discovering God

Last Sunday, Pastor Charles delivered a moving message as he prepared to undergo his kidney transplant in about a week’s time. As he introduced the new theme for the next two months, the God of All Comfort, he shared about the comfort God had given him through this difficult time. God was very real and personal to him.

We recognise that life is filled with unexpected circumstances. We will all face these challenges. Yet, it is in these difficult circumstances that we can discover God. We learnt that David found God to be his rock, fortress, deliverer and so much more as he faced his troubles (Psalm 18:2), but there was still something missing. The Apostle Paul wrote of the Lord as the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort. Paul had been through his fair share of persecution and he was ready for more battles. But there were times when he was caught unawares and he needed to discover something more about God…the God of all comfort.

God of all comfort

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation,” (2 Corinthians 1:3–4)

2. Strength

  1. As God sends comfort, there will come strength.

  6. Let us be strengthened as we experienced the comfort sent by God.

3. Sustain

  1. We recognise that the difficulties of life are never just for a moment.
  2. They tend to be prolonged and lingering.
  3. The God of all comfort can sustain us through these difficulties.
  4. God has a great store of comfort that He will continue to send to us.
  5. We need not falter or fail when facing these troubles.
  6. The Lord will sustain us and help us overcome these problems.

Let us be challenged to look to the God of all comfort, who will comfort us through all our trials and difficulties in life and in ministry.
