A time to be grateful
Wishing all a Blessed and Happy 50+3 Anniversary. We have much to rejoice in as we look forward to celebrating our Anniversary. It is most exciting to reflect on all that God has done for us since Bethany began in 1973. As we consider all that He has blessed us with, we see a profound God who has manifested Himself so wonderfully and marvellously. Can we fully comprehend all that God has done for us as a church? The answer is a definite “No!” His powerful hand has clearly been involved in the growth and development of Bethany. Different attributes of God stand out to me as I think about His profound work in our church. Let us choose to appreciate His blessings more deeply.
The profundity of God’s love
“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.” (Hosea 11:1)
- God remembered the time when Israel was just a “child”.
- Israel became a fledgling nation in Egypt and He called them out to be His children.
- His divine love was demonstrated through His deliverance and protection.
- Even though Israel was distracted by idols, the Lord’s love and kindness continued to draw them with a gentle cord, carrying, healing and feeding them (Hosea 11:3–4).
- God’s love for Israel never ceased and continued no matter what…a most profound love.
- As we remember how God began Bethany 53 years ago as a fledgling church, we see His divine love being manifested in raising us up.
- Despite all the challenges that we faced as a church, God was always there with us.
- For 53 years, God’s immense love has been seen in His provision, protection and presence.
- Let us stand in awe and be truly grateful for the profundity of God’s love.
The profundity of God’s grace
“That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness towards us in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:7)
- The Apostle Paul wrote that we are saved by grace (Ephesians 2:5,8).
- The word “exceeding” (huperballo) denotes what is “immeasurable”.
- The riches of God’s grace surpass all human ability to explain or define.
- He has shown the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness towards us…in saving us.
- Over the years, we have seen many, many souls won to the Lord through Bethany and our overseas churches.
- We cannot fully comprehend the amount of grace the Lord has extended in giving all of us His salvation.
- Let us offer great thanksgiving to the Lord for His profound grace.
The profundity of God’s mercies
“For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, and Your truth unto the clouds.” (Psalm 57:10)
Another profound attribute of God is His mercies. David described God’s mercies as so vast that they reach to the heavens. They are so immense that he was unable to fully quantify them. As we look back over these 53 years, God has shown His great mercies towards us… in supporting us through all the difficulties we have faced as a church, especially this year when Pastor Charles and Aunty Sally had to go through a transplant operation. God manifested His abundant mercies by watching over and preserving them. This Anniversary, let us be challenged to give praise and glory to our profound God for all the amazing blessings He has extended to us.
