“Give Me This Mountain”

The need for a vision

We thank God for blessing our anniversary celebrations. There is much for us to rejoice in. Pastor gave a vital word to conclude this two-month series on the theme, “Give me this mountain”, and to look ahead to our 54th year of ministry. Bethany is what it is today because of the vision God gave us. We need a “Give me this mountain” vision. Without this vision, we would not have grown or accomplished all that we have. For the Lord to bless our work, the vision must not be of our own creation but given by the Lord. God gave Caleb this vision, “Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.” (Joshua 14:12) We recognise that only the Lord’s divine vision is worth following, one in which He will lead and bless us richly.

A “Give me this mountain” vision

1. A powerful vision

  1. This vision may start small but grows into a clear and strong one.
  2. It becomes more certain until it is fully confirmed as a true vision.
  3. It becomes a powerful vision because God, who gave the vision, is powerful.
  4. If we raise a vision from ourselves, it will only turn out to be a weak one.
  5. A “Give me this mountain” vision is a powerful one that will never die or go away.
  6. We would seek to fulfil the vision even though there will be opposition to it.

2. A personal vision

  1. Moses, Joshua and Caleb caught this powerful vision from the Lord.
  2. It became something very real and personal to them.
  3. Caleb knew that the mountain was inhabited by giants, the Anakim.
  4. There were great and fortified cities to overcome.
  5. But Caleb’s faith was in God, who would be with him as he faced these challenges.
  6. He had every confidence in the Lord’s word and help to drive the enemies away.
  7. A personal vision will give us the strength to carry out God’s plans.

3. A profound vision

  1. As we look back over 53 years, we have seen how the Lord has given us a profound vision.
  2. Bethany has grown from a small church into a thriving, developed church.
  3. Our overseas chapters have grown significantly across five countries.
  4. Many lives have been won to the Lord and blessed through the ministries of these churches.
  5. This profound vision continues to grow and develop as more lives are touched and blessed by the Lord.

Catching the vision

As we enter Bethany’s 54th year of ministry, may this “Give me this mountain” vision continue to give us direction and guide us as we move forward in faith. This vision should drive us to wholly follow the Lord’s glorious plan for us as a church, both locally and in our overseas churches. Let us be challenged to face the task ahead with greater determination, not to be daunted, but to be fully dependent on the Lord’s grace and strength…to help us as we strive diligently ahead.
