The need for God’s involvement in life

In life, we recognise that it is never easy to deal with the difficulties we face. They can be very difficult to overcome, and we may end up feeling overwhelmed. It is vital that we recognise the need for God to be involved in our lives.

As David learnt and experienced God’s involvement in facing his troubles, he saw how God made all the difference to him as his rock, fortress, deliverer, and so much more. He would not have been able to deal with life’s challenges…facing enemies on his own. David developed a far stronger faith in God because he knew God would provide all he needed to overcome his difficulties. As he discovered a deeper love and relationship with God, David sought the Lord to be more involved in his life and ministry.

1. God’s enlightenment

“For You will light my lamp; the Lord my God will enlighten my darkness.” (Psalm 18:28)

  1. David testified that it is God who can and will light his lamp.
  2. God is the eternal source of light.
  3. The spirit of a man is compared to a lamp.
  4. It can be affected by darkness through wrong and false thoughts and through discouragement.
  5. No light can come from himself…only from God.
  6. God will give light…to enlighten us and overcome the darkness.
  7. It helps us understand and discern truths about God…who He is and all that He does for us.
  8. Light gives us the wisdom to make good decisions.
  9. We can plead with the Lord to give us enlightenment for our eyes (Psalm 13:3).
  10. Let us be challenged to trust that God will hear and give us light for our lamp.

 2. God’s courage and strength

“For by You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall.” (Psalm 18:29)

  1. David declared that it was by God’s help that he was able to overcome things.
  2. God gave him courage to be brave and do battle.
  3. God gave David strength to overcome.
  4. When there were obstacles such as a wall, God gave him the strength to leap over a wall.
  5. More figuratively, David would be able to overcome obstacles and challenges.
  6. The involvement of God’s help provided the courage and strength to overcome.

3. God’s way is perfect

“As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.” (Psalm 18:30)

When we involve God in our lives, He will show us His ways. God’s way is without fault or flaw. It is perfect in every way, and all things will always work out well. God’s way is found in His Word. There should be no doubt about the Word of God. It is proven and can be trusted. Everything contained in the Word of God is true. We can be fully assured of the LORD’s Word. One word of assurance is that God is a shield to all who trust in Him. God was involved in David’s life as a shield, protecting him again and again from enemies such as Saul and the Philistines.

Let us be challenged to involve God in our lives, as He makes all the difference. Let us experience the Lord’s enlightenment and strength as we seek to overcome life’s challenges.
