The perfect example of the Lord Jesus

When we commune with our Heavenly Father, it is never just for ourselves. As servants of the Lord, our commune with the Father must also be with ministry in mind. We relate with the Father so that we may be better prepared for service for Him each day.

The Lord Jesus sets for us the perfect example of God’s servant. In order for Him to fulfil His role well, He needed to commune with His Father each morning. Through His time with His Father, He learnt what He needed to do and say. Let us be challenged to learn from the wonderful example of the Lord Jesus as reflected in Isaiah 50:4, “The Lord God has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary. He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear to hear as the learned.”

1. Relating to the Father

a. There was such love between the Father and the Son as They communed.

b. The Father desired to be with His Son.

c. The Son desired to be with His Father.

d. His Father would wake Him up morning by morning lovingly.

e. As Father-Teacher, He would awaken His ear to hear.

f. He would teach and instruct Him concerning the day’s ministry and what to say.

g. This is the kind of communion that we should desire with our Father too.

h. Let us be challenged to have loving communion with our Father each day.

2. Learning from the Father

a. How was the Lord Jesus able to serve with a great sense of strength and confidence?

b. It was through His daily devotion of seeking His Father each morning.

c. He would learn from His Father deeply and diligently.

d. God spoke to Him and gave Him the knowledge that He needed.

e. The Lord Jesus had a trained and eager ear ready to listen to His Father.

f. He would be inspired by being given a special word.

g. With the tongue of the learned, He sought to encourage the brethren, especially those who were wearied.

h. Let us be challenged to listen to our Father and learn deeply as we commune with Him.

3. Obedience to the Father

“The Lord God has opened My ear; and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn away.” (Isaiah 50:5)

a. How do we know that we have truly communed with the Father?

b. There will come obedience on our part as servants of the Lord.

c. As the Messiah listened, He was not rebellious as there was no rejection of what was received.

d. He was fully obedient to God’s Word and followed exactly what was learnt.

e. If we truly understand His Word and will for us, we would also be challenged to fulfil what the Lord has revealed to us.

“For the Lord God will help Me” (Isaiah 50:7)

Through such intimate communion, the Lord God would help His Son each day to prepare and be inspired for ministry. Let us also seek the Lord God’s help each day. Let us be challenged by the Lord Jesus’s example of being inspired by God’s Word to serve Him well.
