Revelation
"He performs great signs"
Text: Revelation 13:13
THE DEEDS OF THE BEAST FROM THE EARTH
Though the Beast from the Earth has less power from the Beast of the Sea, he was still able to perform significant deeds. In fact, he would be able to perform great signs.
“He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire
come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men.
And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs
which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast,
telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast
who was wounded by the sword and lived.
He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast,
that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many
as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.”
Revelation 13:13-15
1. Understanding mankind.
a) The Beast of the Earth know how man is sometimes naive and gullible.
b) Man is easily led astray if signs are performed.
2. Great signs.
a) He does not engage in terrible warfare.
b) He resorts to subtle means to cause people to follow him.
i) He imitates the prophet Elijah.
ii) He calls down fire from the heavens in the sight of many.
3. Many will be deceived.
a) Many would be impressed by his power to call down fire.
b) They believe that he is a powerful prophet.
c) They begin to worship the Beast of the Sea, his immediate master.
d) His greater master is the Dragon.
4. Instruction from the false prophet.
a) He instructs his followers to make an Image (an idol).
b) The idol is the Image of the Beast of the Sea.
c) Idolatry would be greatly promoted.
5. The idol would be empowered.
a) The False Prophet would breathe life into the Image of the Beast of the Sea.
b) The Image would be able to speak as if it was alive.
c) The Image could afflict mankind.
d) He would kill those who refuse to offer worship to the Image of the Beast.
6. Lying signs and wonders.
We are reminded of a text that the Apostle Paul wrote:
“The coming of the lawless one
is according to the working of Satan,
with all power, signs, and lying wonders,
and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish,
because they did not receive the love of the truth,
that they might be saved.
And for this reason God will send them strong delusion,
that they should believe the lie,
that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth
but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12
