“My heart is steadfast, O God…” Psalm 57:7
IMPORTANCE OF STEADFASTNESS
How important it is to have steadfastness of heart! The degree to which we are steadfast will help us overcome the calamities of life that much better.
“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing and give praise.”
Psalm 57:7
How did David cultivate a steadfast heart? Let us explore this thought carefully.
1. A firm knowledge of God will go a long way to provide a foundation for steadfastness
a) Knowledge of the Person of God.
i) He is indeed “God!” (Psalm 57:1, 2, 3, 5, 7)
ii) He is “God Most High”. (Psalm 57:2)
b) Knowledge of the attributes of God
i) His mercy (Psalm 57:1, 3)
ii) His truth (Psalm 57:3)
iii) His glory (Psalm 57:5)
c) Knowledge of the deeds of God
i) He has already performed many mighty deeds. (Psalm 57:2)
ii) He will continue to send forth His mercy and truth. (Psalm 57:3)
2. Exercise of faith (trust) in God will cultivate a steadfast heart
a) Prayers must become a very real part of our expression of faith in God.
b) Perseverance must also be practiced.
c) Praise will enhance steadfastness of heart as well.
