Day 38 – Psalm 5

“For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness…” Psalm 5:4

A REMARKABLE UNDERSTANDING OF GOD

David’s knowledge of God is nothing short of remarkable! Let us ponder the following text that reveals his comprehension of God.

“For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness,
Nor shall evil dwell with You.
The boastful shall not stand in Your sight;
You hate all workers of iniquity.
You shall destroy those who speak falsehood;
The LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.”

Psalm 5:4-6

1. God’s clear stance against the wicked:-

a) He does not take pleasure in the wicked.
b) He will not allow evil to dwell with Him.
c) He will not tolerate the boastful to stand in His sight.
d) He hates all workers of iniquity.
e) He will destroy all who indulge in speaking falsehood.
f) He abhors all bloodthirsty people.
g) He also abhors deceitful men.

2. The significance of this knowledge

a) It should cause us to stand in awe of the Lord.
b) It should cause us to check the state of our heart.
c) It should cause us to examine ourselves when we pray to God.

If we allow wickedness to dwell in our hearts our petitions (prayers) would not receive a favourable response from God.

d) It should cause us to check our associating with wicked people and following their ways (Psalm 1).
e) It should cause us to enter into God’s Presence with deep humility.
