Day 330 – Psalm 40

“I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness…” Psalm 40:9

THE PROCLAMATION OF THE GOSPEL

One of the tasks of the Messiah in the will of God was clearly stated in this text.

“I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness
In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips.
O LORD, You Yourself know.”
Psalm 40:9

1. “I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness”

a) Proclamation is another word for “preaching” and “teaching”.
b) The content of the Messiah’s proclamation:-
i) Good news (The gospel).
ii) Imputed righteousness to all who would believe in the Messiah.
iii) All sinners may avail themselves of this glorious promise of being declared righteous through faith in the Messiah.

2. “In the great assembly”

a) This is a general reference to a place of worship.
b) It could refer to the Tabernacle or Temple.

3. ‘Indeed, I do not restrain my lips’

a) Indeed, the Messiah did not restrain His lips when preaching the Gospel.
b) When Jesus preached in a synagogue in Nazareth His hearers were so incensed against Him they wanted to kill Him (Luke 4:16-30).
c) Jesus was constantly opposed by the religious leaders who felt threatened by the content of what Jesus preached and taught.

4. “O LORD, You Yourself know”

a) This text reflects a very precious sense of closeness of relationship between the Messiah and the Lord God.
b) The Messiah would fulfill His ministry in consciousness of God’s omniscience.
