Day 322 – Psalm 39

“Hear my prayer, O LORD…” Psalm 39:12

NEW-FOUND HUMILITY

David’s conclusion of his prayer revealed a man who had been greatly humbled by the Lord.

“Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear to my cry;
Do not be silent at my tears; for I am a stranger with You,
A sojourner, as all my fathers were.
Remove Your gaze from me, that I may regain strength,
Before I go away and am no more.”
Psalm 39:12-13

c) David had learned this lesson in a very hard way.
d) God must respond or he would perish.

3. “Remove Your gaze”

a) This is a reference to God’s look of anger.
b) David pleaded with God to remove this gaze of reproach.

4. “That I may regain strength”

a) David felt weak from God’s “blow”.
b) He prayed humbly that he may be forgiven and that he might regain strength.

5. David’s view of life

He now had it right. He was as his forefathers. He too was merely “a stranger” and “a sojourner” on earth. He needed to include God in his life far more than he did. He needed to learn how to love justice and to stand up and speak up for things that are right!
