Day 323 – Psalm 40

“I waited patiently for the LORD…” Psalm 40:1a

SUPERSCRIPTION

“To the Chief Musician. A psalm of David.”

This is another straightforward superscription ascribing authorship of the psalm to David. Once again David entrusted a psalm he had written to the Chief Musician.

WAITING ON THE LORD

The spiritual discipline of “waiting on the Lord” was a subject David had written about in a number of his psalms. Psalm 40 begins with this thought in mind.

“I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.”
Psalm 40:1

ii) As a servant seeking to do the will of the Lord revealed.
iii) As a servant who through experience has understood the principle of waiting on the Lord.
iv) Sometimes the servant of the Lord finds himself in desperate straits and he cries out to God for Divine help.

2. “And He inclined to me and heard my cry”

a) This was a wonderful testimony that waiting on the Lord is not in vain.
