Day 321 – Psalm 39

“When with rebukes You correct man for iniquity…” Psalm 39:11

CORRECTION FROM GOD

David had been corrected by God before. He reflected on the lessons learned about receiving correction from the Lord.

“When with rebukes You correct man for iniquity,
You make his beauty melt away like a moth;
Surely every man is vapour.”
Psalm 39:11

1. “When with rebukes you correct man for iniquity”

a) Rebukes
i) It may be a direct word from God.
ii) It may be adverse circumstances in life.
iii) It may be personal realization through reflection.
b) Correction of man for his iniquity
i) God will correct man for his iniquity.
ii) He will choose the most appropriate way to teach sinful man the error of his ways.
iii) If only man would learn from these corrective acts of God!

2. “You make his beauty melt away like a moth”

a) Man has a strong vanity streak in him.
b) He is concerned about his “beauty”.
i) His health
ii) His looks
c) Suddenly he realizes that all these things “melt away” like a moth whose life-span is very short.

The conclusion is obvious – “Surely every man is a vapour!”
