Day 210 – Psalm 27

“Teach me Your way, O LORD” Psalm 27:11a

A STRONG DESIRE TO LEARN

David’s thirst for knowledge of God was earnest and strong. More than once he uttered a prayer to the Lord to teach him (Psalm 25:4).

“Teach me Your way, O LORD,
And lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
Do not deliver me to the will of my adversaries;
For false witnesses have risen against me,
And such a breathe out violence.”
Psalm 27:11-12

THE RUGGED PATH OF LIFE

David’s path of life was very rugged. The following phrases describe his path of life:-

1. It was a path where enemies walked.

2. It was a path where there were adversaries who withstood him.

3. There were people who bore witness against him.

4. There were still others who were bent on violence.

THE SMOOTH PATH OF GOD

David could not believe that life must always be filled with confrontation and conflict. He could not pretend that he understood all the vagaries of life. Thus he cried out to the Lord to teach him how to survive in life.

1. Two ways

There was recognition that there were at least two ways in life:-

a) There was man’s way that led to endless conflict.
b) There was God’s way that must be quite different.

2. A prayer to learn the ways of God

a) Perhaps David had chosen a path that led to endless battles with enemies.
b) He felt that he needed to learn God’s way… perhaps that would be a smoother path.
c) Whatever the case, he knew that he desperately needed the Lord to lead him.
