Day 211 – Psalm 27

“The goodness of the LORD” Psalm 27:13

A STRONG ANCHOR

One of the truths that anchored David in his tumultuous life is found in this text.

“I would have lost heart unless I had believed that
I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
Wait on the LORD; be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the LORD.”
Psalm 27:13-14

1. Believing in the goodness of the Lord

a) This was a foundational truth Moses recorded in his writings (Exodus 34:6).
b) This was a truth that David held fast to as he struggled in his life.
c) It was this firm belief in the goodness of the Lord that enabled him not to lose heart.
d) He believed that God’s goodness would prevail against evil.
e) He believed that he would survive his difficulties and see the goodness of God in the land of the living.

2. Waiting on the Lord

a) Prayer was important and pray David did.
b) He also knew that waiting on the Lord must accompany prayer. Waiting on the Lord had to express itself in at least two ways:-
i) He had to exercise patience while waiting for God to deliver him.
ii) He had to practise trusting that the Lord would hear and answer his prayer.
iii) He had to possess “good courage” while waiting on the Lord.

3. Strength from the Lord

a) God would grant him strength while waiting upon Him.
b) The challenge was to keep drawing strength from the Lord while waiting.
