“One thing I have desired of the LORD” Psalm 27:4
THE SOURCE OF DAVID’S CONFIDENCE
What was the source of David’s strong confidence? The answer may lie in the following text:-
“One thing I have desired of the LORD, that will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD, and to inquire in His temple.”
Psalm 27:4
1. It takes time to develop strong confidence
a) David’s confidence did not come to him instantly.
b) It was the result of a spiritual exercise that was practised over many years.
2. It takes effort to cultivate a faith that results in strong confidence
a) It begins with a basic faith in God.
b) This genuine faith in God caused David to seek a deeper relationship with Him.
c) This faith in God brought about a deep love.
i) For the Lord
ii) For His house (Psalm 23:6; 26:8)
3. A holy desire pursued
a) There was a conscious seeking after the Lord (Psalm 27:4a).
b) There was a powerful desire to dwell in the house of the Lord each and every day- throughout life.
c) There was so much to learn and discover about God.
i) There was “the beauty of the LORD”.
ii) There was so much to enquire after in His temple.
BLESSING OF A SPIRITUAL FOCUS
A strong spiritual focus resulted in a special blessing from the Lord! There was light and strength! These brought to David great confidence in life.
