Day 205 – Psalm 27

“He shall hide me in His pavilion” Psalm 27:5

GOD’S SPECIAL PROTECTION

As David grew in his knowledge and faith in God so his confidence developed. One of the great truths that he discovered about the Lord was the fact that He would always protect him. He must have drawn great comfort even as he wrote the following text.

“For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.”
Psalm 27:5

1. “In the time of trouble”

a) In adverse circumstances of life
b) In especially difficult times like war

2. “He shall hide me”

a) This is a reference to God’s special protection.
b) God would personally see to the protection of one who loved Him.

3. “In His pavilion… In the secret place of His tabernacle”

a) The word “pavilion” simply means “a large place”.
b) The word “pavilion” is equated with “His tabernacle”.

4. The transposition from the literal to the metaphorical

a) The literal tabernacle
i) This was by no means a very large place.
ii) The tabernacle was nevertheless seen as a sanctuary (a place of safe refuge- Exodus 25:8).
b) The metaphorical tabernacle
i) God’s sanctuary was not restricted to the physical tabernacle.
ii) God’s tabernacle or sanctuary was a pavilion! Wherever the presence of God was there was His tabernacle and His sanctuary for the oppressed.
