SUPERSCRIPTION

The superscription simply identifies David as the author.

THEMES OF PSALMS

Each of the Psalms has a theme. Themes are sometimes very clear and obvious. Some themes are introduced at the beginning of the psalm. At other times the theme becomes more prominently displayed towards the end of the Psalm.

THEME: THE KING OF GLORY

The theme of Psalm 24 becomes more obvious towards the end of the Psalm. The phrase “The King of Glory” takes centre stage in the last four verses of the Psalm.

A GENTLE BUT POSITIVE BEGINNING

David chose a gentle but positive beginning as he wrote Psalm 24.

“The earth is the LORD’s and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the waters.”
Psalm 24:1-2

1. The LORD

a) He is portrayed as Creator of the earth (“the world”).
b) He is the One who founded and established it.

2. Standing in awe of the Lord

a) A remarkable observation may be noted.
b) An observation concerning “the seas”
i) We know today that the seas make up a large proportion of the earth.
ii) It is remarkable that David understood this fact given the lack of scientific data in his time.
c) Establishing the earth upon the waters
i) That the seas have never engulfed the earth is a remarkable fact.
ii) Creation to King David always points to the LORD as Creator Supreme!
