Day 182 – Psalm 24

“Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD?” Psalm 24:3a

GOD’S DWELLING PLACE

The next movement of thought saw David meditating on God’s “dwelling place”.

“Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD?
Or who may stand in His holy place?”
Psalm 24:3

1. God’s Omnipresence

a) Technically one cannot speak of a dwelling place for God.
b) His Presence is felt in every corner of the universe.

2. God’s dwelling place

a) God has deigned to dwell with mankind.
b) The place he has chosen to dwell in was called “the hill of the LORD”.
c) It is reverently called “His holy place”.

A SHORT HISTORY OF GOD’S DWELLING PLACE

David would have a clear memory of God’s dwelling place among His people.

1. A Tabernacle in the days of Moses

“And let them make Me a sanctuary,
that I may dwell among them.”
Exodus 25:8

2. The Ark of the Covenant

a) In Shiloh in the days of Eli the priest (1 Samuel 4:3)
b) In Kirjath-Jearim in the days of Samuel the Judge (1 Samuel 7:1-2)
c) In Jerusalem in the days of David the King (2 Samuel 6)

KNOWLEDGE OF THE HOLINESS OF GOD

The Ark of God became the sole representation of the Presence of God. (Presumably a moveable Tabernacle would be erected to house the Ark of the Covenant). Wherever the Ark of God was, that represented the Presence of God. And wherever the Presence of God is found, there is “the holy place” (literal meaning “sanctuary”). The holiness of God must always be foremost in the mind of the worshipper.
