Day 143 – Psalm 19

“Like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber” Psalm 19:5

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE “THE SUN”?

There are many ways of describing the sun. A scientist would have his technical description of the sun. A poet would have another way of describing the sun.

A BEAUTIFUL DESCRIPTION OF THE SUN

One of the most beautiful ways of describing the sun must be found in this text.

“Which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber,
And rejoices like a strong man to run its race.
Its rising is from one end of heaven,
And its circuit to the other end;
And there is nothing hidden from its heat.”
Psalm 19:5-6

1. Two powerful imageries employed to describe the sun as it begins a new day:-

a) The joy of a bridegroom.
b) The joy of an athlete.

2. The race circuit of the sun

a) One end of heaven- The race begins at dawn.
b) The other end- The race ends in the evening at sunset.

3. The heat

a) Of the sun
b) Of the race

4. Nothing is hidden from its heat

a) The heat of the sun is felt by all on earth.
b) In varying degrees the heat of the sun is felt.

ENJOYING THE SUN

When was the last time we enjoyed the sun? David’s description of the sun teaches us how to enjoy the sun. Perhaps we have taken the sun too much for granted.
