Day 144 – Psalm 19

“The law of the LORD is perfect” Psalm 19:7a

TIME OUT FOR GOD

David set aside time to think about God- that is so evident! The creation of God fascinated David! He was enthralled by the heavens especially. But there was another subject that caused David to stand in awe of God- “The law of the LORD!”

DIFFERENT WAYS OF DESCRIBING GOD’S WORD TO MAN

David had an array of words to describe God’s word to man! Five are highlighted:-

1. “The law of the LORD” (Psalm 19:7a)

a) This is a general word of description.
b) Every word from God is “law”.
c) This thought stems from the fact that the LORD is God Himself!

2. “The testimony of the LORD” (Psalm19:7b)

a) A “testimony” does the work of bearing witness.
b) Sometimes a word spoken by the Lord has a corresponding “testimony”.

3. “The statutes of the LORD ” (Psalm 19:8a)

a) The words spoken by the Lord are to be understood correctly as “statutes”.
b) They carry much authority.

4. “The commandment of the LORD” (Psalm 19:8b)

a) Sometimes God speaks a special word of command to an individual.
b) Or God may address a situation with a special command.

5. “The judgments of the LORD” (Psalm 19:9b)

a) The word of God spoken or written represents His judgments.
b) They are to be given the utmost respect.

How do we view the Word of God? Do we have a very high regard for it?
