AN AWED DECLARATION

Psalm 139 is a declaration of the Psalmist David as he shares how he discovered the greatness of God. The attributes of God are acknowledged.

1. The Omniscience of God

a) God is described as One who knows, understands, comprehends and is acquainted with man (Psalm 139:1-6).
b) David stands in awe of the depth of knowledge that God has of man.
c) The sense of awe is well expressed in this statement.
d) In God’s omniscience He hedges His people and gives them His protection.
e) In response David had this to say

“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.”
Psalm 139:6

2. The Omnipresence of God

a) God’s Presence is to be found everywhere (Psalm 139:7-12).
i) In heaven
ii) In hell
iii) In the early morning
iv) In the uttermost parts of the sea
v) In the darkness
b) In response David gratefully acknowledges, in awe, God’s powerful omnipresence.

“Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You.”
Psalm 139:12
