Day 140 – Psalm 105

“The people asked, and He brought quail…” Psalm 105:40a

GOD’S PROVISION

God’s provision for the children of Israel was nothing less than outstanding. This provision was carefully noted by the psalmist.

“The people asked, and He brought quail,
And satisfied them with the bread of heaven.
He opened the rock, and water gushed out;
It ran in the dry places like a river.”
Psalm 105:40-41

1. “The people asked”

a) God showed much graciousness to the children of Israel.
b) The sobering reality of this “asking”:-
i) The way they asked was through complaining (Exodus 15:24; 16:2).
ii) They kept finding fault with Moses (Exodus 16:3).

2. “And (He) satisfied them with the bread of heaven”

a) God gave them “manna”.
b) This was described affectionately as “the bread of heaven” (Exodus 16:4-5).
c) God unfailingly provided manna for 40 years (Exodus 16:35).

3. “He brought quail”

a) The people were not satisfied with just bread from heaven.
b) God acceded to their request and gave them quail to eat (Exodus 16:13).

4. “He opened the rock and water gushed out… like a river”

a) God provided water through natural means (Exodus 15:23-27).
b) He also provided for them by supernatural means.
i) Moses was instructed to strike a rock at Horeb (Exodus 17:6).
ii) God employed supernatural power to provide water.

This was intended to help the children of Israel to trust God for His provision.
