A VERY RELEVANT PSALM
This psalm of David is particularly relevant to all who desire to deepen their understanding of prayer.
“Hear my cry, O God;
Attend to my prayer.”
Psalm 61:1
1. “Hear my cry”
a) Prayer was a very normal practice in David’s life.
b) He turned to God in every situation of life.
i) In times of war.
ii) In times of distress because of sin-problems.
c) He never took for granted the privilege of prayer no matter how often he prayed.
d) Thus he would humbly say “Hear my cry” (yet again).
2. “O God”
a) David never allowed “familiarity” to creep into his relationship with God.
b) He always maintained a proper sense of reverence when he prayed.
3. Attend to my prayer
This was a formal plea to the Lord as he begins to formulate and present his prayer to God.
