FEELINGS OF BEING OVERWHELMED

There were times when king David felt overwhelmed. Many things could lead him to feeling swamped.

1. Wars

2. Complex affairs of state.

3. Personal struggles with sin.

4. The sheer weight of being the ruler of the nation of Israel.

TURNING TO GOD

David wisely turned to the Lord in prayer. Few things are as vital as turning to God in prayer in overwhelming moments.

“From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
Psalm 61:2

1. “From the end of the earth I will cry to You”

a) From the end of the earth
i) This is more of a literary expression than an actual geographical reference.
ii) This expression attempts to describe how cut-off and forlorn David felt.
b) I will cry to You
i) David refused to give in to his feelings of dismay.
ii) He chose to cry out to God in prayer instead.

2. “When my heart is overwhelmed”

a) David bared his heart to God in prayer.
b) He really felt overwhelmed; (He felt he was not in control of his life).

3. “Lead me to the rock that is higher than I”

a) This was a prayer for deliverance.
b) He prayed that God would lift him up to a higher plane of life.
