GOOD GROUND
Weekly Devotions

Bible Reading:
4 They will spring up among the grass
Like willows by the watercourses.’5 One will say, ‘I am the LORD’s’;
Another will call himself by the name of Jacob;
Another will write with his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’
And name himself by the name of Israel.Isaiah 44:4-5
1. Consequences of God’s Blessings
a) We have a repeat reading
b) The Lord’s blessings will have clear and definite results
2. A beautiful picture of healthy growth
a) The grass would grow well
b) The willows would also grow well
c) This is because of God supplying the water
i) For the grass
ii) For the willow
3. This Imagery is then applied to the nation
a) “I am the LORD’s”
i) No longer would Israel worship idols
ii) The redeemed ones identify themselves as belonging to God
iii) There was newfound joy!
b) “Another will call himself by the name of Jacob”
i) The believers are happy to use names like Jacob
ii) This kind of association is strong and healthy
c) “Another will write with his hand, ’The LORD’s’”
i) All believers are happy to belong to God
ii) This gives them a strong sense of Identity
d) “And name himself by the name of Israel.”
i) There was no shame in being identified with Israel
ii) The Redeemed would feel an even greater sense of oneness
4. Always be joyful
a) That God has redeemed His people
b) Every believer must hold fast to the joy of:
i) Faith in God
ii) Fulness of identification with God
5. Take time for Review
a) The lessons seem to be more difficult at times
b) Keep praying
c) Keep trusting in God
