Revelation
"Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth"
Text: Revelation 8:13
GREAT WOES
The Third and Fourth Trumpets were sounded, but they did not bring relief. The Trumpets forewarned the divine judgment that would befall the earth!
“Then the third angel sounded:
And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch,
and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water.
The name of the star is Wormwood.
A third of the waters became wormwood,
and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter.
Then the fourth angel sounded:
And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon,
and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened.
A third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.
And I looked, and I heard an angel flying
through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice,
‘Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth,
because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet
of the three angels who are about to sound!'”
Revelation 8:10-13
1. The Third Trumpet

i) It was compared to a burning torch.
ii) It fell on a third of the rivers and on springs of water.
b) The name of the star was Wormwood.
i) A third of the waters became wormwood.
ii) Wormwood is a non-poisonous plant.
iii) But it is bitter in taste.
iv) It is associated with divine judgment.
c) It created a great negative impact:
i) The waters became bitter.
ii) Because of this, many would die of thirst.
2. The Fourth Trumpet
a) A third of the sun was darkened.
b) A third of the moon was also affected (direct relationship with the sun).
c) A third of the stars were also affected and were darkened.
3. The Impact
a) A third of the day did not shine (affected by the sun).
b) A third of the night (“likewise”) did not shine (affected by the moon).
4. A sobering announcement from an angel in heaven.
a) He was flying amidst the heavens (atmosphere).
b) He spoke with a loud voice:
“Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth,
because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet
of the three angels who are about to sound!”
Revelation 8:13
i) He expressed deep concern.
ii) His concern was for the inhabitants of the earth.
iii) His concern centred on the remaining three trumpets to be blown by three more angels.
