"Blessing and glory and wisdom"

Text: Revelation 7:12

THE ANGELS IN HEAVEN

John noted that this offer of praise and worship was approved by the angelic hosts. The twenty four elders also joined in this worship of God initiated by the myriads of believers.

“All the angels stood around the throne
and the elders and the four living creatures,
and fell on their faces before the throne
and worshiped God, saying:
‘Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom,
Thanksgiving and honour and power and might,
Be to our God forever and ever.
Amen.'”
Revelation 7:11-12

1. The angelic hosts of God.

a) All the angels in heaven joined in this worship.

b) The four living creatures (cherubim) also joined in.

2. The elders.

a) There were twenty four of them (Revelation 4:4).

b) They joined in this heavenly worship heartily.

3. Their rejoinder to the “Salvation” chorus of the Myriads.

a) “Amen!”

This word expressed their full agreement to what was sung in praise of God and the Lamb.

b) “Blessing and glory and wisdom”

i) This was uttered in addition to what was sung.

ii) Every blessing was to be attributed to God.

iii) Glory was to be given to God.

iv) Wisdom belongs to the Lord.

c) “Thanksgiving and honour and power and might”

i) Each word of praise must be filled with thanksgiving.

ii) Honour given to man must redound to the greater honour of God.

iii) Power and Might are the attributes to God and must be remembered gratefully.

d) “Be to our God forever and ever. Amen”

i) This additional word of praise was offered to God.

ii) Praise must ever be given to God forever and ever.

iii) A strong conclusion was added with the word “Amen”.
