"A great multitude"

Text: Revelation 7:9

A GLIMPSE OF THE PEOPLE IN HEAVEN

John witnessed a deeply moving scene in heaven. Myriads of people were standing before the great throne of God offering praise and worship!

“After these things I looked, and behold,
a great multitude which no one could number,
of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues,
standing before the throne and before the Lamb,
clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands,
and crying out with a loud voice, saying,
‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb!'”
Revelation 7:9-10

1. Myriads of worshippers

a) There was “a great multitude” .

c) The make-up of this congregation in heaven:

An amazing variety of worshippers!

2. Standing

a) Before the throne.

b) Before the Lamb.

c) Their focus was clear:

4. The palms that they carried.

a) We are reminded of the Palms that were waved when the Lord Jesus rode into Jerusalem seated on the foal of an ass (Matthew 21).

b) Palm fronds were used to express praise to God.

c) “Hosanna” was both a cry of praise and prayer for salvation.

d) In heaven the Hosanna song was noted.

“Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!”

i) Salvation does belong to God who sits on the throne.

ii) It also belongs to the Lamb of God who gave His life to bring salvation to all who believe.

e) Salvation would be a constant theme in heaven’s worship.
