“If they break My statutes…” Psalm 89:31a

THE LAW OF GOD

One of the most prized gifts of God was His law! Yet, so few appreciated the law that God had given to Israel. So many rebelled against the Lord and failed to heed His word.

“If they break My statutes
And do not keep My commandments.”
Psalm 89:31

1. Different terms for the Scriptures

a) God’s law Psalm 89:30a

2. Divine command to the kings of Israel

a) God gave specific instructions to all kings of Israel.
b) Moses wrote these instructions down (Deuteronomy 17:14-20).
i) Kings were not to multiply horses for themselves (Deuteronomy 17:16a).
ii) They should never lead them back to Egypt (Deuteronomy 17:16b).
iii)They must never multiply wives for themselves (Deuteronomy 17:17a).
iv) They must never multiply silver or gold for themselves (Deuteronomy 17:17b).
v) They are to make a copy of the law of Moses (Deuteronomy 17:18).
vi) They are to spend time reading the Scriptures all their life (Deuteronomy 17:19a).
vii) They are to learn to fear the Lord through reading the Scriptures (Deuteronomy 17:19b).
viii) They are to keep the laws of God diligently (Deuteronomy 17:19c).
ix) They are to guard their hearts from being lifted up against their brethren (Deuteronomy 17:20a).
x) They are not to turn away from the Scriptures to the right or to the left (Deuteronomy 17:20b).
