Day 127 – Psalm 78

“They were not deprived of their craving…” Psalm 78:30a

INTENSE CRAVING FOR MEAT

The craving for meat must be understood in its full context. Let us ponder the following text as Moses noted it.

“Now the mixed multitude who were among them
yielded to intense craving;
So the children of Israel also wept again and said:
‘Who will give us meat to eat?

But now our whole being is dried up;
There is nothing at all except this manna before
our eyes!'”
Numbers 11:4, 6

1. Absolute ingratitude is displayed.

2. There was also intense despising of the manna God graciously provided.

3. Instead there was an “intense craving” for meat.

NO DEPRIVATION AT ALL

God did not deprive the children of Israel at all, but graciously provided for them.

“They were not deprived of their craving.”
Psalm 78:30a

Let us read carefully the Biblical record that Moses had recorded concerning this event.

“And the people stayed up all that day, all night,
and all the next day, and gathered the quail
(he who gathered least gathered ten homers);
and they spread them out for themselves all around
the camp.”
Numbers 11:32

1. No gratitude to God was recorded.

2. Focus of the children of Israel was on the quails

a) All that day.
b) All night.
c) All the next day.

3. He who gathered least gathered ten homers.

a) One homer is equivalent to 6.5 bushels (A bushel is a dry measure; 6.5 bushels is a lot of food).
b) This was greed and unbelief (that God could continue to provide in this manner).
