Day 260 – Psalm 65

“You crown the year with Your goodness…” Psalm 65:11a

REVIEWING THE YEAR

It is good practice to review how God has blessed year after year.

“You crown the year with Your goodness,
And Your paths drip with abundance.
They drop on the pastures of the wilderness,
And the little hills rejoice on every side.
The pastures are clothed with flocks;
The valleys also are covered with grain;
They shout for joy, they also sing.”
Psalm 65:11-13

1. “You crown the year with Your goodness”

a) God’s blessings are to be observed throughout the year.
b) His blessings come from His goodness.

2. “And Your paths drip with abundance”

a) God’s blessings are truly abundant.
b) They may be described as follows:-
i) The pastures in the wilderness receive His blessing.
ii) The little hills are not neglected in this outpouring of blessing.
iii) The pastures appear to be well-clothed with flocks and grain.

THE HILLS ARE ALIVE WITH THE SOUND OF MUSIC

David’s words are original. The song writer of “The Sound of Music” may have drawn inspiration from this text.

1. They shout for joy

This is a description of how nature shouts for joy at the way God has taken such great care of it.

2. They also sing

Nature has a song to offer its Creator and Sustainer. The tender care shown by God upon His creation will indeed inspire great songs of praise.

3. A great challenge to all who have been blessed by the Lord

Let us emulate the example of the Psalmist David. Let us take praise to another level. Let us dare to make a solemn vow to sing praises to God always. He is truly worthy of our praise and worship!
