Day 135 – Psalm 18

“You will save the humble people…” Psalm 18:27a

A SPECIAL COMMITMENT TO THE HUMBLE

One of the most precious truths taught in the Bible is God’s regard for “the humble”. The following text illustrates this glorious truth.

“For You will save the humble people…”
Psalm 18:27a

Who are “the humble”? They include the following:-

1. The humble (specific)

a) God does not forget the cry of the humble (Psalm 9:12b; 10:12).
b) He will hear the desires of the humble (Psalm 10:17a).

2. The humble (extended concept)

a) The helpless (Psalm 10:14b)
b) The fatherless (Psalm 10:14c)
c) The oppressed (Psalm 10:18a)
d) The poor and needy (Psalm 5)

A SPECIAL RESISTANCE TO THE PROUD

Conversely, God adopts a stern sense of resistance against the proud.

“But will bring down haughty looks”

Psalm 18:27b

1. They are distinguished as the opposite of the humble.

2. Expressions of the wicked proud

a) The wicked and the proud are linked (Psalm 10:4a).
b) The wicked proud renounce God (Psalm 10:13).
c).The arrogant speaks proud thoughts and exalts self (Psalm 12:3-4; 17:10).

AN UNENDING PROBLEM

There will always be the humble poor. There will also always be the wicked proud. May we choose to be identified with the humble!
