“With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful…” Psalm 18:25

A VITAL AND DEEP INSIGHT

How does God answer the prayers that are offered to Him? How does God relate to a person? The following text offers a deep and vital insight about how God interacts with man.

“With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful,
With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless;
With the pure You will show Yourself pure;
And with the devious You will show yourself shrewd.”
Psalm 18:25-26

The following lessons may be gleaned:-

1. Principles

a) These are divine principles.

b) These are general principles.

2. God follows these general principles as He relates to man

a) The principle of just recompense is in mind.

b) It works in two spheres:-

i) With reference to the righteous.

ii) With reference to the unrighteous (“devious”).

3. Specifically

a) The merciful will find mercy in his hour of need.

b) The blameless will find God blameless.

i) In His character.

ii) In His keeping of promises.

c) The pure will enjoy the Holy Presence of God’s being.

d) The devious will find that he cannot take advantage of God at all!
