A new perspective on the practice of adoration

We thank God that we could resume our carolling service this Christmas. It was a wonderful time of rejoicing as we sang carols together and listened to the One Voice Choir sing joyously. Min Yi’s testimony was uplifting and Pastor’s message gave new insights into how we should adore the Lord Jesus. The giving of adoration is not just about how we feel and what we say; it is so much more. At Christmas, let us be challenged to go beyond our usual way of giving worship and adoration.

Adoration is to be seen as a journey, a lesson that is drawn from the wise men as they journeyed to see the Lord Jesus and gave Him the kind of adoration that He deserves.

1. Acquisition

  1. The acquisition of knowledge was a hallmark of the wise men.
  2. Over the years, they pursued knowledge diligently as a way of life to increase wisdom and understanding.
  3. They were able to acquire knowledge of the birth of the King of the Jews (Matthew 2:2).
  4. They understood that a special star would lead them to the Messiah King Himself.

2. Application

  1. Not only did the wise men acquire knowledge, but they also applied that knowledge.
  2. We tend to acquire more knowledge but not necessarily apply it.
  3. The wise men believed in the knowledge they had gained and applied it by following the star.
  4. No matter how long or arduous the journey was, they stayed the course.
  5. There was no turning back for them as they went in search of the Messiah.

3. Anxious moments

  1. One anxious moment for the wise men was when they lost sight of the star.
  2. They were unsure as to where to go farther in their journey.
  3. Such anxious moments can cause us to fear, worry and be in despair.
  4. The challenge is to have faith in the Lord and His Word to see us through such moments.
  5. The wise men ended up in the palace of King Herod, where they were informed, through the Scriptures, that Christ was to be born in Bethlehem of Judea (Matthew 2:1–6).
  6. When they resumed their journey, they saw the star again and rejoiced with exceedingly great joy (Matthew 2:10).
  7. The wise men were able to overcome their anxious moment.

4. Adoration

  1. When the wise men finally found the Lord Jesus, they fell and worshipped Him (Matthew 2:11).
  2. They recognised the young Child as the Messiah, the King of the Jews.
  3. They responded with wonderful adoration of the Lord Jesus.
  4. The wise men offered precious gifts that were fitting for a great King and Lord (Matthew 2:11).
  5. They had to overcome significant obstacles in search of the Lord Jesus.
  6. Their adoration was a journey, culminating in worship at the feet of the Lord Jesus.
  7. All of us have been on our own journey this year, facing our fair share of obstacles.
  8. There have been anxious moments, but they have been overcome.

With exceedingly great joy, let us offer adoration and praise to the Lord this Christmas. Here’s wishing you a Blessed and Merry Christmas!
