Thank God for the Word of the Lord

Throughout this COVID-19 virus crisis, we thank God for the continuing ministry of the Word of God by Pastor Charles through the on-line videos every Sunday and his daily emails. Many deep and wonderful lessons have been learnt, and we do not want to forget them easily. Have these vital lessons truly become an integral part of our lives?

The implantation of the Word of God

“and receive with meekness the implanted word,” (James 1:21)

The Apostle James wisely described the Word of God as the implanted Word. What does it mean for the Word of God to be implanted?

The word “implanted” in Greek is “emphutos” which means to be “permanently planted, engrafted”. The Word of God is meant to be heard, received and permanently planted deep within us. Once it has been attached, it would become spiritually part of us as a person. There would come a distinct change in our lives due to the implanted Word. Let us check whether the Word of God has been implanted inside us.

The spirit in which we receive the Word of God

“and receive with meekness the implanted word,” (James 1:21)

Our approach to the Word of God determines whether the Word would be implanted or not. It takes a spirit of meekness, to humbly receive the Word of God. James gave a vital challenge, “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;” (James 1:19) A keen ear with a gentle spirit is integral to listening well to the Word of God.

The Lord Jesus taught, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (Matt 13:9) As we listen to the Lord’s Word, we should diligently hide it in our hearts. Our hearts should be good ground for the Word. (Matt 13:23) By dwelling on the Word of God, we should seek to apply it into our life and ministry. Let us ensure the Lord’s Word is implanted into our hearts.

The result of having the implanted Word

“which is able to save your souls.” (James 1:21)

  1. The Word of God would work in our lives. It does an essential work of saving our souls.
  2. The power of the Lord’s work would also bring about distinct changes in our life.

Let us give thanks for the changes that come through the power of the implanted word.

Address the sins that hinder us

“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness,” (James 1:21)

The sins in our lives can hinder our reception of the Word.

  1. The word “lay side” in Greek is “apotithēmi” which means to “put away”.
  2. There is much wisdom in putting away all filthiness and wickedness.

Let us be challenged to address all sins that hinder us from receiving the Lord’s Word.

I am deeply challenged to have a great sense of humility when receiving the Lord’s Word. Let us be challenged to hide the Word of God daily that it may be implanted inside us. Let us ensure that the power of the Lord’s Word is working effectively in our lives.
