Revelation of the knowledge of God

When Pastor Charles gave a special message at DML, on being under the shadow of the Lord’s wings, I did not realise that he would develop this vital focus over the first two months of 2021. One of the points taught at DML was that the Lord’s protection, under the shadow of His wings, was a revelatory idea. It was a new and exciting thought that was being revealed.

The revelation of God was reiterated further in the first morning message of 2021 from Psalm 36 concerning the Lord’s mercy. The immeasurable mercy of the Lord in the heavens was revealed throughout the history of Israel again and again.

As we learnt more about the Lord’s faithfulness, righteousness, judgment and more in the last two months, I found myself being greatly refreshed and enriched by new and exciting thoughts about God and His attributes.

Personal responses

It was amazing to see how everything came together at last two Sunday’s morning messages when Pastor connected all the attributes of God with the lovingkindness of God underlying them and how we should not react to the problems of life such as wickedness but choose our responses. Let me share some personal responses.

1. A reasoned response

“Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.” (Ps 36:7)

The use of the word “therefore” is a reasoned response. It is a considered response where we have understood more deeply about the mercy and the faithfulness of God. It is with this reasoning that we can respond accordingly. We place our trust in the Lord because the Lord is merciful and faithful. As I reflected over these last two months and how the Lord has been merciful, faithful and loving to my mom and my family, I have a strong rationale to respond.

2. Resolve

The word “therefore” also speaks of “resolve”. Our resolve should be to put our trust in the Lord. It is also to make the Lord our refuge (Ps 57:1). My personal resolve is to desire to know the Lord more deeply. It is to exercise my faith and trust in the Lord more significantly.

3. Real

The Lord is meant to be real. All the Lord’s attributes should be real to us. They are meant to be so much more part of us. The Lord has become so more real to me as I know Him and experience Him in the context of life’s difficulties.

4. Ready for life’s challenges

When we see the reality of the Lord in our life, we can be ready and prepared for whatever challenges that may come our way. This week, I was informed that my uncle, my mom’s brother, just passed away. It is the fourth death that we have experienced in my extended families over the last five months. This is the reality of life. Yet, it is with faith and the greater reality of God that we can face these difficulties. As we know God more deeply and personally, let us be challenged to make reasoned responses in meeting the adverse circumstances of life.
