Precious thoughts
The DML message each year always sets the tone for the year ahead. At our DML last week, Pastor gave a vital message for 2026 that we ought to hold on to as we journey ahead. I find the thoughts of Psalm 33 too precious to consider only for a moment. These thoughts concerning our faith should be understood, embraced and applied in our lives as we face the challenges ahead.
The Psalmist of Psalm 33 focuses on who God is and what He has done. He wrote about how God created the heavens and the earth through His Word. He emphasised the sovereignty of God and His plans. The psalmist also focused on God watching over all, especially in caring for His people. Through this understanding, the Psalmist sought to develop a strong and deep faith. One aspect is having an intact faith.
An intact faith in God and His Word
“For the word of the Lord is right, and all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.” (Psalm 33:4–6)
1. The Psalmist had an intact faith in God
- He stayed committed to the Lord and His Word.
- He affirmed his faith in God’s Word as right, true and steadfast.
- The Psalmist saw God as One who is righteous, just and good.
- By His Word, all creation came into existence.
- Nothing would change the author’s faith in God and His Word.
2. A battered faith
- In life, we will face all kinds of challenges.
- These difficulties can batter our faith again and again.
- We may face health issues, work problems, job loss and even the reality of death.
- These problems will not stop battering us in life.
- Some may have lost their faith as a result of such battering.
- The challenge is to be able to keep our faith intact.
3. A better faith
- We want to emerge from these trials of life having a better faith.
- We arise from such battering to having a stronger, steadier and more solid faith.
- Our faith should not remain stagnant or fractured.
- We should never stop growing when we are facing these challenges.
- Let us seek to develop a better faith in God and His Word.
- Our understanding of God and His Word fuels our faith, making it more vibrant, dynamic and resilient.
Keeping an intact faith
What would 2026 hold for us? There may be new problems and difficulties to be faced. The challenge is to maintain an intact faith. Our faith in God must come to the forefront and thrive. Our faith in the Word of God keeps us focused and empowered. Let us be challenged to continue keeping an intact faith as we go forward in facing the challenges of 2026.
