Text: Proverbs 14
4 May 2003

Dear Parents,

ANOTHER SET OF TOPICS
By now we would have gotten used to the idea that when we turn to the Book of Proverbs, we would find each chapter touching on a variety of topics. This is certainly the case as we read Proverbs 14. Each word of advice is given in the hope that it would do a number of things:-

1. It would instruct at a deeper level.

2. It would function as a reminder.

3. It would encourage the heart.

4. It would rebuke those in need of a strong word.

Let us always take time to ponder over the Lord’s word, even if at times there is repetition of instruction! Time given to the study and meditation of God’s Word is never in vain.

THE HOUSEHOLD
Let us never take for granted the household that we have. It takes everyone to do his part faithfully to make the household strong. Let us ponder over this text.

The wise woman builds her house,
But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.

Proverbs 14:1

What is the emphasis in this text? The focus in this word is on the role of the wife in the household.

1. The challenge to be wise

Wisdom must not be taken for granted. The phrase “wise woman” is a challenge to all wives to seek after wisdom.

2. The challenge to build the household

A good and strong household does not emerge “automatically”. A good household has to be built! This text places emphasis on the role of the wife and mother to do her part in building the home!

It takes a lot to build a good Christian home. It challenges the creative skills of the woman to do her part in building up the home.

3. The foolish would end up destroying her home

What a solemn word this is. Let all take heed to this word of wisdom.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
