Text: Proverbs 13
6 April 2003

Dear Parents,

INEVITABLY, THE REPEAT OF SOME THEMES
You will see the repetition of some thoughts in Proverbs 13. Let’s look at some of the major themes found in this chapter. These two lists are not exhaustive in any sense of the word. They are just examples of how we may look at this chapter. We have already been introduced to this way of reading and interpreting Scripture.

1. Good Themes

a) Righteousness (Proverbs 13:5-6, 25)

b) Wealth (Proverbs 13:4, 7-8, 11, 22)

c) Discipline/Correction (Proverbs 13:18, 24)

d) The Wise and Understanding (Proverbs 13:15, 20)

2. Bad Themes

a) Laziness (Proverbs 13:4, 23)

b) The Tongue (Proverbs 13:2-3, 5)

c) The Unfaithful (Proverbs 13:15)

d) The Foolish (Proverbs 13: 16, 20)

Most of these themes have been dealt with in previous chapters. Proverbs 13 and other chapters provide good but random thoughts concerning some of these themes. The challenge is to draw as much encouragement as possible from reading the Word of God prayerfully.

GOOD ADVICE ON HOW TO GUARD THE TONGUE
We have excellent advice on how we should guard the tongue. Let’s ponder this text.

A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth,
But the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence.
He who guards his mouth preserves his life,
But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.

Proverbs 13:2-3

Let us be challenged to teach our children how they may guard their mouths.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
