Text: Proverbs 12

Dear Parents,

A PLETHORA OF GOOD AND WISE SAYINGS
Proverbs 12 is another wonderful chapter that offers a plethora of wise sayings. How do we appreciate these sayings in our work of parenting?

TAKE TIME TO MEDITATE ON THESE GREAT TRUTHS
The proverbs that we read should be meditated upon for a number of reasons. Two reasons may be highlighted:-

1. Personal Growth

All parents should be committed to personal growth. Where personal growth stops, the work of parenting would also be hindered. Meditate on this challenging text.

A good man obtains favour from the LORD…

Proverbs 12:2

Let the ultimate goal of our life be that we become “good men”. Then would we be greatly blessed by the Lord indeed.

2. More Effective Parenting

The wiser we become as parents, our work of parenting would be that much more effective.

THE CHALLENGE OF PRODUCING WISE AND RIGHTEOUS CHILDREN
The ultimate challenge in parenting has to do with how our children would turn out. Unfortunately, we have no guarantee how our children would turn out. There are so many factors that work against us, and against our children.

1. The fact of sin.

2. The problem of wrong worldly influence.

3. The worst enemy of all – Satan.

No matter how great the odds may be stacked up against us, every good parent is committed to work very hard to bring up their children! Let us never grow weary and tired of attempting to bring up our children well.

SEEK THE LORD IN PRAYER
The Book of Proverbs is unlike the Book of Psalms. The latter emphasizes the spiritual part of our life. Thus there is constant reference to prayer. The former emphasizes the practical wisdom and righteousness a person must find and practise in life. It is important that we should combine wisdom drawn from both the Book of Psalms and the Book of Proverbs to aid us in our challenge to bring up our children well. Let there be great teaching. Let there also be fervent praying.

Prayerfully,
Pastor Charlie
