IN THE LORD I PUT MY TRUST

(I) THE PROBLEMS OF LIFE

1. The wicked

“The wicked bend their bow,They make ready their arrows on the string” Psalm 11:2a

2. The Wicked attacks the Upright

“That they may shoot secretly at the upright in heart” Psalm 11:12b

3. The danger that the Wicked pose

“If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” Psalm 11:3

(II) POSSIBLE RESPONSE

1. To flee

“Flee as a bird to your mountain” Psalm 11:1c

2. Advice from friends

“How can you say to my soul, ‘Flee as a bird to your mountain?’ ” Psalm 11:1b

(III) POWERFUL CHOICE MADE

1. To place trust in the Lord

“In the LORD I put my trust” Psalm11:1a

2. To continue to believe in the Lord

a) The Lord is Sovereign

i) In His holy temple ( Psalm 11:4a )

ii) On His throne in heaven ( Psalm 11:4b )

b) The Lord is fully aware of all that happens on earth

i) His eyes behold ( Psalm 11:4c )

ii) His eyelids test the sons of men ( Psalm 11:4d )

iii) He also tests the righteous ( Psalm 11:5a )

3. To trust in the Justice of God

a) He hates the deeds of the wicked

b) He hates violence

c) He will judge the unrepentant wicked and violent

4. To affirm trust in the Person of the Lord

a) He is righteous ( Psalm 11:7a )

b) He loves righteousness ( Psalm 11:7b )

c) He beholds the upright with a favourable countenance ( Psalm 11:7c )
