(I) TRUST IN THE LORD- IN THE PAST

1. Remembering God as a Shelter (Psalm 61:3a)

2. Remembering God as a Strong Tower from the enemy (Psalm 61:3b)

(II) TRUST IN THE LORD- IN THE PRESENT

1. Expressed in Prayer

“Hear my cry, O God!
Attend to my prayer.”
Psalm 61:1

a) When the heart feels overwhelmed

b) When the heart feels that it is at the end of the earth

c) Prayer to be led to a rock that is higher

i) Safer

ii) Stronger

2. Expressed in Vows

“For You, O God, have heard my vows…” Psalm 61:5a

“So I will sing praise to Your name forever,
That I may daily perform my vows.”
Psalm 61:8

a) A vow is essentially a solemn promise

b) This vow must be honoured and kept

(III) GOD’S RESPONSE TO OUR TRUST IN HIM

1. A great heritage of those who fear His name

Two special blessings may be highlighted.

a) Joy

“So I perceived that nothing is better than that a man should rejoice in his own
Works, for that is his heritage.”
Ecclesiastes 3:22

b) Protection

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
And every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness
Is from me, says the LORD.”
Isaiah 54:17

2. Prolonging of life

“You will prolong the king’s life,
His years as many generations.”
Psalm 61:6

3. Abiding in the Presence of God

“He shall abide before God forever,
Oh, prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him.”
Psalm 61:7
