A Rod From the Stem of Jesse

THE PRINCIPLE OF GOD’S PROFOUND PLAN

1. Humble beginnings

“There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots.”   Isaiah 11:1
a. The significance of the Rod i. Rod – A reference to the staff of the Shepherd
ii. A veiled reference to the Sceptre
iii. The Kingship of the Lord Jesus
b. The significance of the Stem of Jesse
i. Jesse was a Bethlehemite
ii. Bethlehem was an insignificant small town
iii. King David and the greater David, Jesus would come from Bethlehem   (cf Micah 5:2)

2. Glorious future

“And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, who will stand as a banner to the people….”   Isaiah 11:10
a. The Root of Jesse will stand as a banner
b. The King will rally all people   (Isaiah 11:10 – 12)

THE TOTAL COMPLIANCE TO GOD’S PROFOUND PLAN

1. The Lord Jesus’s great humility in total compliance   (Philippians 2:5-8)

a. He emptied Himself of all His rights and privileges
b. He humbled Himself
c. He totally obeyed God’s plan, even to the point of death.

2. The Lord’s Jesus was made much lower than the angels   (Hebrews 2:6-9)

a. He suffered for everyone
b. He by the grace of God tasted death for everyone

THE TOTAL RELIANCE ON THE EMPOWERING OF THE SPIRIT OF GOD

1. The filling of the Spirit of God upon the Lord   (Isaiah 11:2)

a. Seven fold aspects of the Spirit of God b. The Lord Jesus had fullness of filling

2. The Spirit of God can enable to fulfil His profound plans

a. The Spirit of God can empower
b. The Lord Jesus became our salvation
“Behold, God is my salvation…”   Isaiah 12:2
