A Great Light

Text: Isaiah 9-10

THE DARKNESS THAT IS IN THE WORLD

1. No light

a) In mediums
b) In wizards
c) In seeking the dead on behalf of the living   (Isaiah 8:19-20)

2. Darkness

a) Trouble
b) Gloom
c) Anguish   (Isaiah 8:22)

3. Walking in darkness

a) Distress   (Isaiah 9:1)
b) Oppression   (Isaiah 9:1)
c) Land of the shadow of death   (Isaiah 9:2)

THE LIGHT PROMISED BY THE LORD

1. Prophecy proclaimed

a) Gloom will not be on the distressed   (Isaiah 9:1)
i) It will not continue
ii) It will not prevail
b) They will see a great light
i) God will give a great Light
ii) This Light will shine amidst the darkness   (Isaiah 9:2)

2. Prophecy fulfilled

a) The Messiah will be born
b) He will be given to His people   (Isaiah 9:6)
c) He will have the greatest, most glorious name   (Isaiah 9:6)
d) Jesus literally fulfilled this prophetic word   (Matthew 4:14-16)

JESUS AS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

1. He gives light to everyone who comes into the world   (John 1:9)

2. He is the Light of the world   (John 8:12; 9:5)

AN INVITATION TO COME TO THE LIGHT

“O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the LORD”   Isaiah 2:5

1. To know Him

2. To believe in Him

3. To trust in Him

4. To follow Him as a disciple

5. To walk with Him

6. To serve Him

7. To bear fruit for Him
